Crime fiction writer Minette Walters has branched out into the realms of historical fiction with her new novel The Last Hours. Set in the summer of 1348, it provides a fascinating glimpse into what life was like for the ordinary folk of Dorset when faced with the horror of the Black Death.

Available now in hardcover, the book will be available in paperback in the UK on 6 June 2019. Minette Walters is a master storyteller. The Last Hours is 555 pages long, yet my only complaint is that it wouldn’t fit in my handbag!

Minette Walters picked up her pen again in 1987 just when her younger son Philip, was starting full-time education. Her debut novel, The Ice House took her two years to write. After being rejected by numerous publishers, her novel was finally picked up by Macmillan Publishers. And so in 1992, Minette Walters published her first book.
